Contemporary issues are one of the most important segments of UPSC CSE Mains examination. The in-depth understanding of these issues provides an edge to the aspirants while writing GS-Mains papers as well as in some optional subjects. These issues also help the aspirants in Personality Test after qualifying the Mains Examination.

How are contemporary issues different from current affairs?

Contemporary issues are broader in nature and includes all dimensions of a particular topic, while as current affairs becomes one of the components of that topic. For example, Agrarian distress is a contemporary issue in India which has been there for many years now. And any new policy or program of the government to deal with these crises becomes automatically a current affair segment of this particular issue. All the initiatives such as e-NAM, doubling farming income, weaving off farmer’s loan, increasing MSP are converging to deal one contemporary issue that is-Agrarian distress.

Therefore holistic understanding of the contemporary issues both national and international becomes very important from the perspective of mains examinations. These issues range from Social, economic, political and governance to international relations.

How is GSSCORE covering these contemporary issues?

It is in this context GSSCORE has started a novel initiative called “Quality Improvement Program (QIP)” to cover holistically all the contemporary issues which are important from the UPSC Mains point of view. The Quality Improvement Program of GSSCORE will provide the aspirants an in-depth understanding of important contemporary issues ranging from Economy, Environment, and International Relations to Polity and Governance.
